01Overview

Sigmund 2 is a delay plugin from D16 Group that goes well beyond a single echo. Its four delay units each have their own set of parameters, and each line includes modules such as a filter and overdrive that work independently of the feedback loop. Four multipurpose modulators can act on several delay parameters at once, which opens the door to subtle movement or more expressive, wide-ranging effects. The plugin runs on Windows and macOS in VST3, VST2, AU, AAX and standalone formats.

Four delay lines, nine routing options

Sigmund 2 is built around four delay lines. D16 Group says each line is alias free, and the delay times can be set across a wide range, including very short values. That range is what makes the plugin usable for chorus and flanger sounds as well as standard echoes.

The four lines can be connected in nine different topologies. Lines can run in parallel, in series, or in combinations of the two. The developer notes that the output of each line is combined in an internal mixer, which keeps transitions between routings smooth.

Each delay line also has its own filter and overdrive module, both usable inside or outside the feedback loop.

Modulators and modulation depth

Four multipurpose modulators can each be set to one of three modes: LFO, envelope or peak follower. Modulation depth is adjustable, so the same modulator can apply anything from a slight drift to strong motion.

The modulators can target filter cutoff, in-loop delay time or the output volume of a delay line. Delay time modulation covers chorus and flanger sounds, cutoff modulation covers wah-wah and phaser-style effects, and volume modulation covers tremolo and panning.

Each modulator can be re-triggered by MIDI notes or by the input signal when the LFO or envelope mode is selected.
