01Overview

Satellite is a sample-based Kontakt instrument from AudioThing that recreates a rare Moog synthesizer from the mid-1970s. The original was a monophonic preset synth with one VCO and limited modulation, and it was used mostly as an add-on for electric organs. The developer says the original's preset sounds include brass, reeds, strings and other tones. Two Kontakt instruments are included, one tuned and one untuned, because the original was not properly tuned across the whole keyboard, especially at the ends.

Vintage Moog Character and Preset Sounds

The original Satellite was built in the mid-1970s and is described as one of Moog's lesser-known instruments. Its sound centers on simple, preset-driven voices rather than deep patch editing, with the developer citing brass, reeds and string tones as examples of what it produced.

The package includes 13 original presets that capture these voices. Because the source instrument was monophonic with one VCO, the character is focused and single-voice in nature, suited to lead lines, organ-style parts and sustained pads.

Tuned and Untuned Versions

Satellite ships as two Kontakt instruments: a tuned version and an untuned version. The developer included both because the original keyboard was not tuned evenly across all keys, and the tuned instrument aims to give consistent pitch across the range.

Choosing between the two lets you match the instrument to your material. The untuned version keeps the original's uneven tuning character, which can be useful when you want that specific vintage quirk.

What Is Included

The library contains 433 samples recorded at 44.1kHz / 24-bit and occupies about 400 MB on disk. Presets are delivered for Kontakt, and the sample content is also available as WAV files, which can be used outside Kontakt in a compatible workflow.

Satellite is a good fit for producers who want an authentic Moog-era keyboard voice inside a Kontakt setup.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Satellite?

Satellite requires the full version of Kontakt 5.1 or higher. It is not a standalone plugin and will not run without Kontakt.

What is the difference between the tuned and untuned versions?

The tuned instrument is set to an even pitch across the keyboard. The untuned version reproduces the uneven tuning of the original Moog Satellite, especially at the ends of the keys.

What formats does Satellite come in?

Satellite is delivered in Kontakt format, with the samples also available as WAV files.

Is Satellite a physical product?

No. Satellite is a software instrument designed for the full version of the NI Kontakt engine.
