01Overview

SantaCruzEQ6 is built on code from Algorithmix's PEQ Blue and MAAT's thEQblue remix. Its six architectures emulate well-known analog equalizer designs, including symmetrical, asymmetrical and proportional bell types, and the developer describes the emulation as free of added noise and distortion. Each architecture can be run in several instances at once, which suits comparison work during mixing and mastering. The plugin supports sample rates up to 384 kHz.

Six EQ Architectures and Their Character

The plugin provides six PEQ styles, covering classic, vintage, modern and experimental approaches. MAAT normalizes the bell shape of every type to the same appearance at +6.02 dB of gain and a Q of 0.71, so you can switch between architectures and hear the difference in tone rather than in curve shape.

Q behavior varies by architecture. The plugin includes classic, constant-Q, proportional, ideal-Q and special Q characteristics. Constant-Q types suit precise corrections, while proportional types are intended for combining several overlapping bands.

Workflow Controls and Graphing

Six sections are available, and four have freely assignable parametric filter variants: bell, multi-order high and low shelf, and multi-order high and low cut. The first and last sections offer shelf and cut filters. Bell Q and shelf or cut slope are adjustable, and several cut filters can be overlapped to build brickwall slopes.

The frequency graph can be resized and zoomed, and parameters can be edited numerically or directly on the graph. Band grouping lets you change frequency, Q and gain across several sections together, and a frequency lock allows you to adjust only Q or gain once a resonant frequency is found. True Peak metering flags true-peak overs, and a sort button orders sections from low to high frequency.
