Twelve EQ Architectures and Their Sound
The twelve topologies cover symmetrical bells, asymmetrical boost and cut curves, proportional designs, constant-Q designs, and two parallel types. MAAT describes the set as spanning vintage, modern and experimental approaches.
Constant-Q designs keep bell width fixed as gain changes, which suits surgical corrections. Proportional designs widen or narrow the bell with gain, which MAAT says works well when several overlapping bands are combined. The parallel feedforward/feedback and parallel passive LC types are the two options in the set based on parallel topologies, with different phase and boost-cut behavior.
Because the architectures are normalized to the same 6 dB bell, switching between them lets you hear the difference in curve shape rather than in overall level.
