Six EQ Architectures for Different Tonal Goals
The six architectures cover a range of EQ behaviors. Some are symmetrical bells suited to precise corrective work, while others are proportional designs whose bandwidth changes with the amount of gain. Proportional architectures are described as more musical for mixing and post-production, with wider bells at small gain settings and narrower ones at larger settings.
Constant-Q asymmetrical designs use different boost and cut shapes, and a parallel feed-forward/feedback architecture provides complementary boost and cut characteristics. Because each architecture has its own curve, switching between them lets you audition different responses on the same material.
