01Overview

thEQred is an equalizer plugin from MAAT, designed around linear phase processing and a frequency-domain approach. It is a reissue of the Algorithmix LinearPhase PEQ Red, updated with MAAT's interface and features and offered in 64-bit builds. Its twelve sections handle parametric and shelving EQ, with an interface built for fast setup and visual monitoring of the mix.

Linear Phase Sound and Filter Design

thEQred works in the frequency domain: the input is transformed into a spectral representation, processed, and converted back. The developer says it uses high resolution at low frequencies while keeping temporal resolution intact, which is intended to avoid smearing transients in drums and other percussive material.

MAAT says its VariSlope technology lets shelving and cut filters take any slope from near 0 to 24 dB per octave. Instead of drawing a curve freehand, you set the slope of each filter directly, from broad, shallow tilts to steep, cascaded cuts.

Workflow and Interface for Mastering EQ

The interface shows all twelve sections at once and can be resized. A sonogram helps you spot problem frequencies, and a Contribution display with positive, negative, EQ-only and normal modes shows what each change adds to or removes from the signal.

You can also play a note on a keyboard, then snap a section to that frequency with one click. The SORT button arranges the sections for review. Panorama modes cover stereo, mono (L+R), left, right and difference (L-R), and stereo processing can run in Left/Right or Mid/Side mode.

The developer positions thEQred for mastering work and for correcting biased or unbalanced mixes.
