01Overview

Sequel 2 is built around an eight-pad layout with a 32-step sequencer, aiming for the fast, hands-on feel of classic drum machines. The included Drum Kit Library is organized by vintage machines, processed kits and single-category hits such as kick, snare and hats. Each pad offers its own pitch, filter, pan, level and reverse controls, and the plugin can route pads to separate outputs in your DAW. Version 2 adds a real-time pitch engine, more sequencer functions per track and a global compressor, EQ and reverb.

Sampling, Pads and Sound Shaping

Each of the eight pads can hold a sample from the included library or a file you load yourself. You can drag a sample onto a pad or pick one from the built-in file browser. Supported formats for your own samples are WAV, AIFF, FLAC and MP3, with sample length limited to 5000 ms.

Per-pad controls include volume, pan, pitch and release, plus start and end trim points, reverse, and high-pass and low-pass filters. A global EQ, compressor and reverb sit at the output stage, with adjustable low, mid and high EQ and reverb decay and amount.

You can also send each pad to its own multi-output channel in your DAW, so you can process individual drum sounds with your own plugins.

Sequencer Workflow and MIDI Control

The sequencer shows eight tracks with 32 steps each. You place triggers by clicking or dragging across steps, and a loop end can be set by clicking a step number. Each row has clear, mute and solo buttons for quick arrangement changes.

Expanding a row reveals pitch, note length, velocity, swing, reverb and pan lanes, which you can draw across steps for movement within a pattern. Patterns can be dropped as MIDI into your DAW track, so you can build a longer arrangement from several Sequel patterns.

All controls are MIDI mappable with a right-click, and each pad can be assigned to any MIDI note on a keyboard or controller. The developer notes that the plugin comes pre-assigned for the Akai MPC Mini.
