SampleTank 4 MAX Upgrade: Sound and Groove Workstation by IK Multimedia

IK Multimedia describes the library as more than 250 GB of content with over 8,000 instruments and over 500,000 samples, including articulations and round-robins. Recordings cover piano, keyboards, guitars, bass, drums, strings, brass, synths, vocals and percussion.

The Browser can filter sounds by timbre, style, genre and mood, and each instrument has a 3D icon and an Info view with a description. Imported .wav and .aiff samples can be added to the instrument library.

The Edit view exposes the synth engine parameters for each element or articulation of an instrument, and a modulation matrix lets you assign sources to synth engine and effects parameters. Layers create splits and layers, and the Parts-based mixer gives each part its own volume, pan, mute, solo and routing controls.

The product runs 16 part multitimbral with 16 individual stereo outputs. Time-based effects, audio loop instruments and LFOs can sync to BPM, and four play modes include mono legato with portamento.

Live mode loads instruments instantly and organizes them into set lists and songs. Each song can store its own tempo, and each sound has its own volume control. Program change messages can be assigned to sounds so you can switch from a controller. The Pad interface can launch patterns, loops or single notes from iRig Keys I/O or any MIDI controller.
