01Overview

Radiance focuses on the sound of the EMT 140, a mechanical plate reverb first released in 1957. Wave Alchemy captured seven plates from different studios, each with its own character, and modeled them in detail. Beyond the plate sounds, the plugin adds a set of processing tools that a typical emulation does not include, so you can shape the reverb tail without loading several extra plugins.

Plate Sound Characters and Modes

Radiance includes seven plate models, named after their tonal character. Air is bright and airy and suits vocals, strings and drums. Classic gives a rich, balanced tone. Clear is brighter on top with deeper bass, Crisp is short and bright with a shortest reverb time of 400ms, Dark is deep and rich, Tube is weighty with some high-end sparkle, and Vintage is mid-forward with a smooth top end.

The Modern mode adds extended frequency range and extra sparkle, and an analogue modeled input saturation stage is included. Wave Alchemy says the plates were chosen for their distinct qualities, so each model covers a different part of the spectrum.

Workflow Controls and Advanced Processing

The Tweak page holds three reverb character modes: Clean, Vintage and Gritty. Gritty is an emulation of SP-1200 circuitry. A 4-band Mid/Side output EQ, dual-band stereo width controls and an advanced gate are on the same page.

Modulation is handled by Flux and Ensemble, and the plugin includes ducking and transient smoothing. Pre-delay can be tempo synced, and a Mix Lock control is available. An enhanced mono mode offers phase coherent and summing options.
