Digital Revolution: Retro Drum Machine Plugin by Wave Alchemy

Digital Revolution offers a character mode that lets you choose how each drum voice plays back. Original mode plays samples with the sound of the source machine. Hi-Fi mode routes the sound through a high-end outboard mastering chain. Lo-Fi mode resamples the sound in real time through a 12-bit sampler, with each raw drum sound recorded and re-pitched 16 times.

Wave Alchemy says the digital source material allowed it to focus on real-time resampling and tone-shaping controls. These controls can range from subtle saturation to heavy distortion.

The plugin includes a TR-style 16-track step sequencer with accent control, host sync, swing and shuffle, and a dedicated 10-track mixer with individual processing, volume and pan for each drum sound. Dual delay and reverb units use custom impulse responses, and the master section includes a multi-track tape machine, compression and EQ.

The included library has 600 patterns in various styles, and a preset browser can recall drum patterns, mixer channels and master bus settings together. Patterns can be written live, and deep velocity modulation supports expressive performance from a controller or electronic drum kit.
