01Overview

Pulsatec is an equalizer plugin built around the sound of vintage passive EQs. Its low, mid and high bands let you boost and cut within the same frequency range, a technique the developer ties to classic EQ practice. A built-in spectrum analyzer shows how each adjustment changes the frequency response in real time. The plugin runs in common DAWs on Windows and macOS.

Passive EQ Character and Frequency Shaping

D16 Group says Pulsatec is designed to reproduce the warm, musical tone of vintage passive equalizers. The low band offers selectable frequencies at 20, 30, 60 and 100 Hz, with independent boost and attenuation controls. This allows simultaneous cut and boost in the same range, which the developer describes as a way to create punchy low end.

The mid section has two bands. The lower mid band covers 200 Hz to 2 kHz and the higher mid band covers 3 kHz to 16 kHz, each with a bandwidth control for adjusting how sharp or smooth the curve is. The high band provides attenuation at 5, 10 and 20 kHz, which can be used with the higher mid band to tame harshness and sibilance.

Spectrum Analyzer and Workflow Tools

The Real-Time Analyzer shows input and output curves together, so you can compare the signal before and after processing. A predefined EQ response overlay displays the target curve on the spectrum, and the display resolution can be adjusted to suit different monitoring needs.

Quick bypass, output volume control and output metering help you check the effect and keep levels consistent through the signal chain. MIDI Learn allows controller assignment, and several UI sizes with HiDPI support help the window fit your screen.
