01Overview

Plasma is an effects plugin from iZotope in the saturation category. iZotope describes it as the first intelligent tube saturator, built around a technology it calls Flux Saturation. Rather than applying the same static drive across a whole signal, Plasma analyzes the material and focuses tube saturation on the frequency areas that benefit from it. The plugin is aimed at producers who want to warm up a sound, add grit, or shape the balance of a mix or master without a heavy manual process.

Adaptive saturation and target profiles

Plasma's core idea is Flux Saturation. iZotope says the plugin identifies frequency areas that need boosting and applies tube saturation only to those areas, only when they need it. Target profiles add a second layer of control. Powered by iZotope's machine-learning technology, the profile you select determines how Flux Saturation is applied, and profiles are available for individual mix elements as well as full masters.

Plasma also includes Attack and Release settings to control how quickly saturation responds, so you can warm a sound immediately or build it gradually. A separate Overdrive fader adds extra crunch when you want a more aggressive character.

Channel modes, frequency handles and presets

Channel Modes and Frequency Handles let you limit processing to specific frequencies, to the mid or side channel, or to the transient or sustain portion of a signal. This makes it possible to target saturation to a single part of a mix rather than the whole signal.

Plasma ships with 49 presets covering a range of tonal directions, from bright and deep to balanced and warm. They span individual mix elements through to the entire master bus, giving you a starting point you can adjust from.
