Sound and Character Across the Knob's Range
Waves describes the knob as moving through distinct stages of distortion. At low settings the effect adds subtle crunch. As you turn it up, the distortion builds through second and third harmonic content and finally reaches heavy third harmonic distortion.
An EQ stage follows the crunch and boosts specific frequencies at different settings, so the added grit is shaped rather than flat. At higher settings the character moves from traditional analog-style sound toward a more digital tone.
