01Overview

Noises is a creative texture instrument developed by AudioThing together with German composer Hainbach. Its central dial crossfades between the eight sounds of each bank, which Hainbach recorded from vintage test equipment, analog synths, tape machines and field recordings. A built-in sequencer can drive the dial, and the plugin includes a multimode filter, a bit crusher and a preset system with a randomizer for quick exploration.

Sound Sources and Character

The sound library is organized into 21 noise banks, each holding eight sounds. Bank names such as Soviet Tape, Tape Hiss, Test Voltages and Wave Analyzer point to the mix of sources behind them, from magnetic tape and electronic measurement gear to analog synthesizers.

The product includes 1.18GB of hand-crafted samples and 118 presets made by Hainbach, so you can start from his sound design and move on from there. Noises is also positioned for film, game and podcast scoring, as well as for subtle texture work that adds coherence to a track.

Controls and Workflow

The large central knob works as a precision crossfader between the eight sounds in a bank. A sequencer controls the knob, letting you mute sounds, play sequences and randomize movement. A Trig button can start and stop the sound in free sync mode, and these controls can be recorded and automated. In host sync mode, Noises starts and stops with DAW playback.

The interface is resizable. Custom banks are added by placing up to eight WAV, AIFF, FLAC or OGG files in a folder inside the Banks Path, with optional .txt descriptions and .jpg images that appear in the info panel.
