01Overview

Moog describes Mariana as the next step in its bass lineage, following the Minimoog Model D and Minitaur. Each of its two layers is built around two oscillators and a sub-oscillator, with a dedicated filter for the sub. The layers can be stacked for complementary sounds or played duophonically. Built-in tube, tape and overdrive saturation, a compressor and real-time metering are included for finishing bass parts. Mariana runs as a plug-in in VST3, AU and AAX formats or as a standalone app controlled by MIDI.

Sound Design and Modulation for Bass Synthesis

Mariana's two layers can be mixed to complement each other or played independently in duophonic mode. Each layer includes three LFOs, three envelopes and two random generators, giving a wide range of movement for evolving basses.

The modulation matrix is one of the deeper parts of the instrument. Moog says nearly every parameter can be modulated through MIDI, MPE and virtual CV. Stereo oscillators and crossover filtering are intended to help shape width while keeping a mono bass foundation.

Delay and chorus effects run on separate layers, and high-pass filters help keep the low end mono.

Workflow, Interface and Included Presets

The interface is resizable and includes an on-screen keyboard. Moog presents it as a fast, straightforward way to control bass sounds from the start.

Mariana ships with 200 presets that can serve as starting points or be reworked into new bass tones.

Because it works as a plug-in inside a DAW and as a standalone app, it can be used in a studio session or as a separate MIDI-controlled instrument.
