01Overview

Molekular is built around modular effect design. Instead of a fixed chain of processors, you assemble your own effects system from a library of 35 effects and route them as you see fit. Native Instruments positions it as a tool for live and studio performance, with real-time control that lets you shape effects as you play. It is available in VST2, AU, AAX and Standalone formats, and also works as a Reaktor ensemble.

Modular Routing and Modulation for Sound Design

Molekular lets you route any of its 16 modulation sources to almost any parameter. This makes it possible to build rhythmic and melodic movement, create organic textures, and feed effects back into each other. Native Instruments describes the result as sound sculpting, with routing flexibility as the core of the design.

Because the signal path is modular, the same library of 35 effects can produce very different results depending on how you connect them. Sound designers who want to go beyond standard insert chains will find the routing the main point of the plugin.

The Morphing Field for Live Performance

The morphing field is the performance layer of Molekular. You set a center position and define four master mutations, then offset the center to create a wide range of variations. You can morph between stored settings or set the morph in motion with the modulators.

This makes it suited to performing effects in real time, not only tweaking them in a session. Native Instruments frames this as effects evolution that happens live.
