01Overview

MOJO: Upright Bass is part of Vir2 Instruments' MOJO instrument family. The developer says the library was sampled with jazz bassist Stefan "Pista" Bartus and recorded through a Studer A900 analog console at 24bit/96kHz. It is designed for jazz, rock, blues and rockabilly, and it is meant for composing, programming and recording standup bass lines that do not sound synthetic.

Sound, Articulations and Playability

The instrument provides true legato, real vibrato and eight articulations. The articulations include performable repetitions, percussive hits on different parts of the bass body, and played chords. Speed-dependent articulation switching handles note repetitions, and you can select specific bass strings.

Five microphone positions are available, along with a pre-mixed option for lighter computer load. The Settings page lets you change the keyboard layout and how articulations and release samples are triggered, and you can combine articulations into a velocity stack.

Workflow: Presets, MIDI Performances and Effects

The Instrument page offers 20 presets and controls for vibrato, legato, chords, capo, velocity curve and humanization. The Performance page lets you filter hundreds of included MIDI performances by category, meter, key and scale, across styles such as Jazz, Blues, Bossa Nova, Latin, Funk and Rockabilly, plus fills, ends and percussion.

The Effects page includes eight effects: EQ, BP Filter, Saturation, Cabinets, Compressor, Limiter, Reverb and Delay, with presets for each. The developer also notes integration with Komplete Kontrol keyboards and Maschine through NKS-compatible hardware.
