01Overview

Lamellophones gathers 17 experimental instruments built by Bart Hopkin, a builder who has been designing unusual acoustic instruments since 1974. Soundiron includes its earlier Hopkin libraries along with two instruments created for this release, Cat's Face and CÍque. Each instrument is recorded at multiple microphone positions, and the library adds ambient soundscapes made from the source recordings. It runs inside Kontakt and is intended for producers who want textures and sounds that sit outside standard sample libraries.

Sound Character and Playing Techniques

The instruments are made from wood and steel, and the developer describes each one as having its own tonal character. The library covers plucks, bowed shorts, bowed sustains, glissandi, percussion and FX, giving you both rhythmic hits and sustained tones from the same set of instruments.

Each instrument is captured with several microphone positions, so you can choose a more direct or more spacious recording. Samples are stored at 24-bit, 48 kHz in stereo, using lossless NCW compression.

Kontakt Controls, Modulation and FX

The Kontakt interface offers automation-ready controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching, cross-fading and layering. An LFO system with selectable shape, target, speed, intensity and tempo sync is included, along with 12 filters and an arpeggiator with velocity table, direction, swing and randomization settings.

A key and scale lock keeps notes within common scales. The modular FX rack provides 18 effect modules that can be placed in any of 10 slots in any order, and the reverb section includes 99 convolution impulse responses plus 40 custom FX impulses.
