Piano Sound, Microphones and Character
MeldwayGrand includes seven stereo microphones, each with its own controls for volume, formants and detuning. The classic mic pair gives a centred, wide stereo image. The head mic is designed to simulate the feeling of standing inside the piano sound, while two pairs of ultra-close mics offer the direct, forward tone often used in pop and rock. A ball mic captures the sound from inside the instrument, and Brauner mics are described as producing a very wide stereo image.
The developer also says the instrument can reverberate sympathetic resonances and simulate partial sustain pedalling, even without sustain pedal input. These controls let you shape how much of the piano's resonance is heard in a given track.
