01Overview

M-Tron Pro IV is built around the tape-based sound of the Mellotron M400. GForce Software bases the instrument on a sample library of nearly 200 tape banks and includes more than 800 patches. This version adds a fully scalable interface, a preset browser and a tape browser, which make the library easier to navigate. Its effects chain covers tape wow and flutter, amp simulation, an ensemble effect and a matrix reverb. The developer positions it for producers who want Mellotron character without the original hardware.

Mellotron Sound and Tape Character

The core of M-Tron Pro IV is its tape bank library, with nearly 200 sample sets and over 3.5GB of factory samples. Each bank gives a different tape-based voice to work from.

New in this version is a Wow and Flutter control with instability settings, which adds the pitch drift associated with worn tape. An amp simulation section adds warmth, noise and saturation. Together these tools let you move from a clean reproduction to a degraded, lo-fi texture.

Workflow, Controls and Hybrid Patches

M-Tron Pro IV offers an extended keyboard range that reaches seven semitones lower than before. It supports dual-layer and split keyboard operation, and MIDI Learn lets you map controllers to parameters.

LFO shaping can target pitch, filter, pan and level. Expanded poly aftertouch and velocity controls add expression. Individual FX locks, along with undo, redo, copy and paste, make it easier to edit and compare patches. Tape reverse and half-speed playback, along with a Brake effect for pitch-shift sounds, add further options for sound design.
