01Overview

impOSCar3 is GForce Software's third version of its synth based on the OSCar, a British hardware synthesizer from the early 1980s. The original paired digital oscillators with analogue-style filtering and was made in very small numbers. This version keeps that core design and expands it with a wavetable oscillator, a wavetable editor, a preset browser and a reverb. It ships with over 1800 presets, including the legacy sounds from impOSCar2.

Filters and Sound Character

The dual filter is the centerpiece of impOSCar3. It offers nine filter modes, including low-pass, high-pass and band-pass in 2-pole or 4-pole configurations, along with parallel combinations such as low-pass with band-pass. Drive, cutoff, Q and separation controls let you shape resonance and formant-like textures.

GForce Software describes the sound as dark, lush and ambient, suited to pads, resonant bells and leads. Poly and mono unison modes can stack voices for a wide, thick sound.

Wavetables, Macros and Workflow

The new wavetable oscillator includes over 150 wavetable presets and a wavetable editor with 256-step tables that can be drawn as shapes or edited as partials. A user LFO editor with 25+ presets, four programmable macros and a Matrix Reverb effect add modulation and space.

Chord mode, an arpeggiator, programmable velocity and aftertouch responses, and a fully scalable interface round out the workflow. Undo and redo are included.
