01Overview

Kiive Audio describes the FilkChannel Strip as based on some of the best Danner Cassette Modules made in the 1970s. The plugin chains three modules in one interface: a preamp, an equalizer and a compressor. The developer says its tonal range runs from light analog warmth to gritty, driven distortion, so the same strip can handle a vocal, a mix bus or a heavy bass or guitar track.

Preamp, EQ and Compressor: How the Channel Strip Works

The PRE70 preamp moves from warm analog tones on one side of its control to aggressive harmonics and distortion on the other. A trim knob attenuates the gain added by the input knob, and a dry/wet knob blends in the distortion.

The EQ7D section offers three bands of parametric EQ. It also includes high-pass and low-pass filters, each ranging from 20Hz to 20kHz, and shelf buttons that change the curve of the high and low bands.

The COMP2R is an OPTO-style compressor with fixed attack and release and a variable-ratio knob. A dry/wet mix knob reduces the amount of compression, a sidechain filter runs from 20Hz to 12kHz, and a mode switch selects snappy compression (NRML MODE) or softer compression (BUS MODE).

Features for Tracking, Mixing and Sound Design

Kiive Audio lists a swappable FX chain, so the order of the modules can be changed. The interface can be resized, and oversampling is included.

According to the developer, the strip suits light coloration on vocals, acoustic guitars and the mix bus, as well as more aggressive processing for drums, bass and heavy guitars. Because each module has its own dry/wet control, you can keep the original signal present while adding saturation or compression.
