Width, Depth and Height Processing in Expanse 3D
Expanse 3D divides its work into three processors. The width processor uses spectral phase processing to widen the stereo image while keeping bass tight. According to United Plugins, it reduces stereo content from the sub and widens progressively toward the high end, and it remains fully mono-compatible.
The depth processor uses delay networks combined with channel and phase processing to add a shared space. It can add dynamic contrast between separate sounds or help elements sit together in a full mix.
The height processor generates additional harmonics rather than boosting existing frequencies, which the developer says improves the perception of low frequencies on small speakers and adds brightness at the top end.
