Royal Compressor: Vari-Mu Compressor Plugin by United Plugins Free Download

The plugin simulates vari-mu circuitry, which the developer describes as adding warmth and smooth compression to a wide range of audio material. United Plugins positions it for vocals, bass and drums, on both insert and bus channels.

An adjustable amount of valve saturation sits alongside the compression. The developer notes that the saturation algorithm is randomized, intended to mimic the behavior of real hardware on a track.

The A/B/C model selector switches between three circuit types, each with a different fixed attack value, so you can change the character of the compression without adding more controls.

The interface keeps the number of knobs low, following the approach of analog-era compressors where mixes were set manually. The developer says this makes it possible to reach a vintage sound quickly.

Automatic Gain Control keeps the output level steady as you add input gain. Changing the color or saturation therefore does not change the output volume, which makes A/B comparisons easier. The developer also notes that high input gain can produce strong saturation.

The graphic interface is photorealistic and can be resized by dragging the arrow in the bottom right corner, so it can be made smaller to save screen space or larger for easier use. Smart Bypass is designed to avoid clicks and noise when automating parameters.
