01Overview

Emma Legato is a sample-based vocal instrument from the Sonora Cinematic Select series, designed for composers and producers who want expressive vocal lines without complex setup. It is built on a true legato sampling approach, which records the transitions between notes as well as the notes themselves. The vocals are performed by soprano Emma May Price, who also appears in the developer's earlier Aria Vocalscapes library.

True legato vocals and the SPEED control

Sonora Cinematic describes Emma Legato as built on true legato sampling, meaning the transitions between notes were recorded as well as the notes themselves. The SPEED control sets how quickly those transitions play back. A faster setting suits quick passages, while a slower setting suits lush, emotional lines with a touch of natural portamento.

The AUTO mode adjusts the transition speed based on the distance between notes, so wider intervals glide more slowly. A keyswitch lets you turn AUTO on and off mid-performance, which is useful when a specific passage needs manual control.

Articulations, reverb and snapshots

The main interface offers three articulations: Humming, Poco Vibrato and Aahs, the last of which has an expressive vibrato. The EXPRESSION slider is a pre-effects volume control that helps shape a performance.

A built-in cinematic reverb is ready to use for epic vocals. Two reverb options are available: BLUE, a shimmery and very diffused ambience with a large tail, and PINK, a slowly modulated reverb with granular-like processing. A selection of curated snapshots offers quick starting points.
