01Overview

Synths DX is aimed at producers who want sampled pads and textures with the character of classic hardware synths. The developer recorded the sounds key by key at 24-bit / 48kHz through UAD Apollo AD converters, then applied only light post-processing to keep the patches close to the originals. The instrument is built around a simple interface, a two-layer blend control and built-in effects, so presets can be adjusted quickly within a Kontakt session.

Sound Sources and Character

The library draws on nine synthesizers, including the Dave Smith OB6, Moog Minitaur, Moog Sub 37, Novation X Station, Nord Lead 2, Oberheim Matrix 6, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Roland Super JV and Yamaha DX7. Each source provides its own tonal color, so the presets range from analog warmth to digital-style sheen.

The developer says the samples were captured with minimal processing so the patches keep their original richness. Each synth contains two recorded layers that can be blended with the pole wheel, which is controlled by the mod wheel.

Controls and Workflow

The interface is kept deliberately simple. Envelope selection offers three attack and three release stages, and each instrument has its own tailored envelope slots for attack and release times.

Each instrument includes two of six built-in effects: phaser, 80s flanger, Leslie, delay, reverb and ladder filter. A scoring EQ provides two SSL-style settings, adjustable separately or together, which the developer designed to make room for dialogue in film and game mixes.
