01Overview

Atlas Flutes is a woodwind instrument for Kontakt developed with film composer Christoph Zirngibl. It features an alto flute, a bass flute, a Kaval, a West African flute, a Quenacho and Pan Pipes, each recorded and programmed in styles typical of film, game and media soundtracks. The focus is on short articulations and textures rather than long sustained lines, and a dedicated performance mode maps those articulations across one keyboard.

Articulations and Textural Sounds

Each instrument can play marcato, staccato and staccatissimo articulations, swells in two or three durations, and sforzando in three durations. Jet Tones are available on the bass and alto flutes only, and flutters on the Kaval, bass flute, alto flute and West African flute.

The Kaval and bass flute also include textural recordings that range from acoustic improvisations to designed, hybrid soundscapes. An X-Y pad lets you morph between these textures, moving from dark and haunting to light and airy sounds.

Performance Mode for Faster Scoring

Performance mode remaps the short articulations onto a single keyboard layout. The left part of the keyboard sets the pitch to be played and the right side triggers notes: marcato, staccato and staccatissimo on the white keys, and swells and sforzandos on the black keys.

Swells in performance mode are tempo synced to your host, which makes it straightforward to land notes on the beat and build tight ostinatos.
