01Overview

EMISYNTH collects eleven Soviet children's synthesizers, according to the developer, instruments that have survived for 30 to 50 years. Strix Instruments says the sounds were recorded from the original speakers of each instrument, so the character of the hardware is preserved. Each synth has aged differently, and the developer describes the resulting artifacts as part of the sound. The library runs in Kontakt and is NKS-mapped for Komplete Kontrol.

Vintage Character From Aged Soviet Hardware

Strix Instruments states that time and storage conditions shaped the analog elements of each instrument, giving every synth its own artifacts and tonal shade. The recordings were made from the original speakers, so the sound reflects the hardware as its designers intended.

The library offers 11 synths, 100 presets and 979 variations, with 3500+ unique samples at 48 kHz and 24-bit. Fine-tuning controls are included so you can shape each instrument within the library.

The developer notes that the instruments sound best at 96000 Hz or lower, 16 to 24-bit, because Kontakt handles effects better at higher sample rates.

Interface and 1980s Synthwave Use

The interface is built for quick switching between instruments and direct control over each sound. Strix Instruments positions the library for 80s-style atmospheres and synthwave, while noting that it can be used across other genres.

The developer also says it recorded special impulse responses for convolution reverb in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, adding to the period atmosphere of the library. Strix Instruments also says future updates with new synthesizers will be free.
