01Overview

Abyss focuses on deep and atonal sounds made with classic and modern analog synthesizers. The patches are designed to produce rumbling soundscapes and characteristic drones with real low end and depth. The library combines pure analog patches with granular, glitched, resampled and reverbed variations, and it includes the updated Synths Engine 2.0 for further sound design. It is aimed at film scores, video game audio, ambient work and other production where heavy, dark textures are needed.

Sound Sources and Character

Abyss draws on four analog synth sources: Moog Minitaur and Sub37, and Oberheim Matrix 1000 and Matrix 6. The recordings were made through a Neve 88RS with an Empirical Labs EL7 in the recording path, and the samples are captured at 24-bit / 48kHz through UAD Apollo converters.

The library ranges from straightforward analog bass patches to heavily processed material. Effect processors including Eventide and Crusher X are used in the granular layers, and each instrument provides two layers, the original and an effected version.

Controls and Workflow in Kontakt

Each instrument includes an envelope selector with three attack and three release stages, plus six effects per instrument: Phaser, 80s Flanger, Leslie, Delay, Reverb and Ladder Filter, with two effects active per instrument. Two SSL-style EQs cover bass boosting and midrange attenuation.

A pole wheel blends sample groups softly, which helps when shaping evolving drones. Multi instruments combine patches from the Scape, Glitch and Granular libraries to build more complex layered sounds.
