01Overview

Discord4 is the latest version of Audio Damage's Discord pitch shifter, a long-running effect that the developer originally modeled on the Eventide H910. This version keeps the core pitch-shifting character and adds a new modulation design, a reverb in the feedback loop, and improved saturation and limiting. It is built for producers who want pitch-shifted, delayed and feedback-heavy textures across stereo tracks, from subtle detuning to extreme sound design.

Best for

  • Shimmer reverb effects
  • Vocal pitch effects
  • Experimental sound design
  • Stereo widening
  • Feedback delay textures
  • Octave-shifted pads

Three Pitch-Shifting Algorithms and Buffer Control

Discord4 offers three algorithms: Vintage, Clean and Granular. Vintage is the original Discord algorithm, modeled on the Eventide H910 and H949. Clean is aimed at more modern shifting sounds, and Granular is intended for experimental effects. Each mode suits different input material, so you can choose the one that fits the source.

The Vintage and Clean algorithms include a Buffer Size control from 32 to 2048 samples. Lower and higher settings change how the shift is fine-tuned to the input signal. Across the six-octave shift range, the developer notes that this control can produce strong aliasing and artifacts, which are useful for unusual sound effects.

Delay, Reverb and Modulation Options

The delays can be tempo-synced or free-running, with feedback, cross-feedback and a bandpass filter. A simple stereo reverb sits in the feedback path, which is the route to shimmer-style effects. Two new Flexible Low-Frequency Oscillators (FLFOs) provide tempo sync and an arbitrary waveform, so a wide range of modulation shapes can be set with three controls each.

Discord4 uses a true stereo signal path with independent control over each side, and panorama settings let you adjust the stereo width of the wet signal. MIDI note input can control the six-octave pitch-shift range.
