01Overview

Continua is a synth plugin from Audio Damage that centers on morphing waveforms rather than fixed oscillator shapes. Its three oscillators use warp, shape and skew controls to reach a wide range of timbres, and cross-modulation and noise extend the palette further. Two morphing filters can run in serial or parallel and move between lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch responses in 2-pole or 4-pole configurations. The synth also offers a broad modulation section, with every knob available as a modulation destination.

Best for

  • Evolving pad sounds
  • Dense detuned leads
  • Modular-style modulation
  • Microtonal and alternate tunings
  • MPE controller performance

Oscillators, Filters and Sound Character

The three oscillators in Continua morph continuously, so a single knob sweep can move between many waveforms. Combined with cross-modulation and the noise source, which includes a colour control for shaping its tone, the oscillator section covers simple synth leads as well as complex textures.

The dual morphing filters offer lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch responses in 2-pole and 4-pole configurations. Running them in serial or parallel gives you two different routing approaches for tone shaping.

Modulation and Workflow

Continua includes two ADSR envelopes, two Flexible Envelope Generators that act as arbitrary function generators with up to 99 steps, and four Flexible LFOs with phase, shape, skew and warp controls. The Sample and Hold source can sample noise or other modulation sources at a set rate or a musical division, with smoothing and a distance limit for a walking effect.

Any knob can be assigned as a modulation destination with a right-click, or a double-tap on iOS. Per-instance settings let you choose MPE mode, aftertouch smoothing, pitch bend range, tuning table and global tuning offset for each instance, and you can save a state as your global starting point.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does Continua support?

Continua is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Does Continua work on 32-bit systems?

No. Continua is 64-bit only and will not function on 32-bit systems.

Does Continua support MPE controllers?

Yes. It understands both legacy MIDI and MPE, so controllers such as the Linnstrument, Roli Seaboard, Haken Continuum and Madrona Labs Soundplane can access per-note pressure, pitch bend and modulation.

Can I use custom tunings with Continua?

Yes. Continua accepts open-source TUN tuning table files, and a global tuning offset lets you match a different A frequency without a table.

Is there a trial version?

Yes, a trial is available for Continua.
