01Overview

Enso is built around a looping engine with independent play and record heads, so you can play the buffer in one direction and speed while recording in another. Its one-button looping control is host-synced or free-time, and it works either as a traditional digital looper or as a tape looper where effects and speed changes sit in the feedback path. A built-in effects section adds tape-style saturation and hiss, high- and low-pass filters and a stereo chorus. The plugin is also available for iOS, and its presets can move between the desktop and iOS versions.

Looping engine and sector crossfading

Enso's play and record heads are decoupled, with a through-zero speed control on each head ranging from -4x to +4x. Text entry values and selectable increment and decrement steps make precise speed settings easier to dial in.

The sector system lets you define four different start and end points, crossfade between them, and overdub or re-record within each sector. This suits building layered loop beds where sections change without stopping the loop.

Dub In Place offers two modes: a digital looper style, where input is mixed with the buffer before effects, and a tape style, where effects and speed changes are included in the feedback path.

Effects, MIDI control and presets

The effects section includes user-controllable tape-style saturation and hiss, high- and low-pass filters and a stereo chorus for thickening and shaping the loop.

For hands-on control, Enso provides an assignable MIDI CC page covering most looping functions. The page is tuned for foot control but accepts any MIDI CC source, and the MIDI learn layout can be stored with a preset.

The XML-based preset manager can optionally store the buffer inside the preset, so audio travels with the settings. Enso can also save its buffer as a WAV file and load AIFF, WAV, Broadcast WAV, FLAC, MP3 and Ogg files at any sample rate, bit depth and channel configuration.
