Cylindrum: Tuned Tube Percussion Instrument for Kontakt

The library offers three variations of the instrument: dry small, dry fat and wet. The small set uses 1½-inch PVC water pipes tapped over one end, with a microphone at the far end. The fat set uses 4-inch ABS corrugated plastic tubes with an open-ended rubber port hole, played with a ping pong paddle. Both dry sets were recorded in a dry studio room.

The wet version uses 4-inch ABS corrugated tubes with felt mallets on a heavy rubber cap, recorded in a wide stereo array in a glass and tile hall. Soundiron positions this set for dramatic scoring and layering with other percussion.

The instrument is mapped chromatically across its articulations, with round-robin variation and up to seven velocity layers in the main sets. Mute articulations on the 4-inch tubes are also included.

The LFO system offers selectable shape, target, speed, intensity, tempo-syncing and fade-in controls. Twelve filter types can be assigned to velocity, mod wheel, expression, after-touch, key position and sequencer. The modular FX rack holds 18 DSP modules, along with 99 environmental and 38 FX reverb presets.
