01Overview

Comprexxor is based on a flexible analog compressor design, recreated by IK Multimedia as part of its T-RackS line. Its knee-type compression, eight ratio curves and optical and GB modes let you move from subtle level control to heavy, distorted processing in one plugin. Harmonic coloration and a two-filter sidechain give further control over how the compressor reacts to your signal.

Compression curves and sound shaping

Comprexxor features eight selectable ratio curves. Each ratio has its own threshold setting, so the threshold adjusts automatically when you change the ratio. The 1:1 setting adds warmth without compressing, while the MAX setting produces a strong brick-wall limiting curve.

The optical mode turns the attack and release controls into an opto-style compressor. The GB mode and the first ratio setting can be used for distortion-like grit, so the plugin works beyond level control on any track.

Color and sidechain controls

The color section adds 2nd order harmonics, described as tube-like, or 3rd order harmonics, described as tape-like. Dedicated controls set the amount and tone, which makes it practical to warm up digitally recorded tracks.

The advanced sidechain section includes two adjustable filters. You can focus compression on the frequencies you choose before the signal reaches the compressor, which is useful for controlling bass or taming harsh midrange.

Questions, answered

What formats does Comprexxor support?

Comprexxor is available as VST3, VST2, AU and AAX. It runs as a 64-bit plugin on Windows and macOS.

What do I need to run Comprexxor?

On macOS you need macOS 10.15 or newer, 8 GB of RAM and 9 GB of hard drive space. On Windows you need Windows 10 (64-bit) or newer, 8 GB of RAM, 9 GB of hard drive space and an ASIO-compatible sound card. Both platforms require an OpenGL 2 compatible graphics adapter and an internet connection for Custom Shop operations.
