Sound and Articulations of the Steel Bells
Each bell is sampled with three playing methods. Soft cloth mallets cover single notes and sustaining rolls, a hard pick produces single taps, scrapes and sustaining effects, and a viola bow creates sustains and staccatos.
The bells range from 2 to 3 1/2 inches in diameter, and each note can sustain for up to 10 seconds. Soundiron says the set evokes a steel marimba or celeste when played with mallets and a glass armonica when bowed. Each articulation uses round robin variation and dynamic velocity layers, so repeated notes do not sound identical.
