01Overview

CineHarps is a harp instrument built from deep orchestral samples recorded by Cinesamples. It runs in Kontakt, so you load it into a sequencer or host with the free Kontakt Player or the full version of Kontakt. The library covers plucked patches and glissandi, and it combines close, room and surround perspectives into one instrument. Its controls let you shape dynamics, releases and round robin variation.

Sound, Perspectives and Playing Techniques

CineHarps is recorded in three distinct positions on the scoring stage, and Perspective Mode adds a slider that crossfades between the Close, Room and Surround microphone views. The slider is mapped to the mod wheel, so you can change the apparent depth of the instrument while you play.

Gliss Mode transposes the white keys according to the selected pedal diagram, which makes glissandi easier to play on the keyboard. When the mode is active, note attacks in faster phrases are softened, so the faster you play, the softer the attack. The developer notes that leaving the pedals on C major lets you play chromatically while keeping that softened onset, which suits trills and bisbigliandi.

A Close Delay button aligns the Close perspective with the Room and Surround perspectives, giving a tighter sound when it is on.

Controls for Dynamics, Releases and Round Robins

The Velocity Curve control offers Forte and Piano biases, a linear response, and a custom-drawn curve. It can also compensate for a MIDI keyboard with heavy or light action.

The Release Mode knob switches between Muted releases, which dampen the string at note release, Let Vib., which lets the string ring for its full duration, and Normale, which gives a moderate decay. The RR Borrowing knob uses surrounding notes as extra round robins, adding tonal variation as its value rises.

The Dynamic Range knob changes the overall dynamic spread of the instrument, from full layers at equal perceived volume to a much wider range of low and loud dynamics.
