EXHALE is a Kontakt-based vocal instrument from Output, the team behind REV and SIGNAL. It is aimed at producers, composers, artists and sound designers who want vocal sounds that feel current rather than dated. The engine combines three playing modes, a set of four macro sliders for quick shaping, and deeper modulation, mixing and effects controls. Sound Design and Vocal Character

Output recorded real singers and a choir for EXHALE, rather than relying on session musicians. Sounds were crafted with analog and vintage gear, tape machines and vocoders. The developer says 25 sound designers spent six months refining the sounds.

The engine is built around modulation, tempo-synced effects and pitch shifting. Output places a strong focus on musicality, so the sounds are meant to be played and shaped rather than used as static samples.

Playing Modes and Controls

EXHALE offers three modes. Notes is for chromatic playing of vocal sounds. Loops is for looping vocal elements. Slices is for sliced vocal phrases.

The Main page gives quick access to four macro sliders for finding and customizing a sound fast. The Engines page opens deeper control over modulation, mixing and effects, including automatable insert and mod FX. Each preset can carry its own custom macros and FX presets.

The library ships with 10 GB of raw material, and NKS support and Snapshots for Maschine are included.
