01Overview

CHEat Code combines sixteen separate effect modules in one plugin, covering reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, granular processing, slicing and bit-depth style distortion. Its routing lets you move between fully serial chains and fully parallel layers, with a center point that blends both. Four standard macros and a three-state morphing control help you shape complex chains quickly. The developer, BEATSURFING, worked with Che Pope on the design.

Sound Design Modules and Routing

The plugin's 16 modules cover a wide range of processing. Reverb handles spaces from subtle ambience to large washes. Reverser creates halftime effects and backward melodies. Spin moves the stereo field with frequency-focused panning. Grain Delay and Bubble Grain provide granular echoes and textures, while Fractal Delay offers 14 delay taps across three stages.

Routing is where the plugin differs from most effects units. Instead of choosing between serial and parallel, you can set any point between them. When the routing knob is centered, the signal path sits exactly halfway between series and parallel, blending both paths.

Performance Widgets and Macros

Performance widgets are built for live control inside your DAW. They include momentary effect throws and touch-sensitive automation returns, so you can capture spontaneous changes while playing or recording.

The macro section has four standard macros plus a three-state morphing control. The developer states that macros can also be controlled and automated with the mobile app.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does CHEat Code support?

CHEat Code is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on both Windows and macOS.

What do I need to run CHEat Code?

You need a DAW that supports one of the listed formats: AU, VST, VST3 or AAX. On macOS, you need 10.13 High Sierra or later on an Intel or Apple Silicon processor, with at least 330MB of free disk space. On Windows, you need Windows 10 or later, a 2GHz Pentium IV or equivalent processor, and at least 246MB of free disk space.

What is the difference between serial and parallel routing in CHEat Code?

Serial routing chains modules one after another, while parallel routing runs them side by side. CHEat Code lets you set any position between the two, so you can blend both paths in one chain.
