Sound Origin and Character

Bit Zone starts with the Crumar Bit 99, which the developer describes as a digitally controlled six-voice polyphonic analog synth. Each voice of the original combines two oscillators and two LFOs, with CEM 3328 analog filters and VCAs. UVI recorded more than 29,000 samples from the hardware, and every sample was captured both with and without a Yamaha SPX90 Symphonic chorus in line. That gives you the option to add this chorus effect to your sounds or leave it out.

The library includes eras-specific and more contemporary sounds, organized into patch categories such as Bass, Bells, Brass, Keys, Leads, Pads, Pluck, Polysynth, Strings and Winds. Raw waveforms from the Bit 99 are also included for building sounds from scratch.

Editing Controls and Signal Path

Bit Zone uses dual-layer sounds. Each layer includes oscillators, envelopes, multimode filters, an LFO and step modulator, and the layers can be edited separately. Two arpeggiators are included for rhythmic patterns.

The effect section includes EQ, drive, Thorus, ensemble, Phasor, delay and Sparkverb. The interface follows the design cues of the original hardware, so the editing layout reflects the Bit 99's look and feel.
