01Overview

B360 Ambisonics Encoder is built for producers who need to deliver audio for VR and 360° video. Ambisonics B-format represents a full spherical soundfield across four channels, while ordinary mono, stereo and surround tracks route to fixed speakers. B360 handles the conversion step, so standard tracks can be placed inside an Ambisonics mix. It can sit on the final mix to encode the whole project, or on individual channels to position sources precisely within the sphere.

Converting Tracks to Ambisonics B-Format

The core job of B360 is conversion. It takes mono, stereo or surround material and encodes it into the four-channel Ambisonics format. Once converted, the signal can be combined with other Ambisonics content in the same session.

Waves says the plugin is designed around the industry-standard B-format, so the output follows the common AmbiX file convention. The package also includes AmbiX-to-FuMa and FuMa-to-AmbiX utilities for working with projects that use the older FuMa convention.

Positioning Sources in the Sound Field

Placement is handled with width, rotation and elevation controls. These let you shape where a source sits around the listener and how wide it spreads. The panning is described as accurate across up to seven image sources.

Because the interface is familiar to people used to traditional mixing, the learning curve is shorter for engineers coming from stereo or surround work. Positioning controls sit alongside the conversion settings, so a single channel can be placed and checked without leaving the session.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What is Ambisonics B-format?

Ambisonics B-format is a four-channel representation of a full spherical soundfield. Unlike mono, stereo or surround tracks, which feed individual speakers, it describes sound direction for playback in 360° and VR formats.

Which formats and operating systems does B360 support?

B360 Ambisonics Encoder is available as VST2, AU and AAX. It runs on Windows and macOS. Waves lists macOS Monterey 12 through Sequoia 15 and Windows 10 or later.

Can B360 convert older FuMa files?

Yes. The plugin includes AmbiX-to-FuMa and FuMa-to-AmbiX utilities, so projects can move between the two conventions.
