01Overview

Mixing for Atmos and other immersive formats makes it hard to process the whole mix in one place, because the mix is delivered as separate beds and objects. Immersive Wrapper addresses this by opening a mono Waves plugin across every channel of a multichannel track in a multi-mono setup. The instances can be control-linked so they behave as one plugin, and linking can be applied to groups such as surrounds or tops. Waves developed the tool with immersive mixing engineers Hans-Martin Buff and Yaron Fuchs.

Bus Processing for Immersive Mixes

Waves says immersive mixes are output as individual beds and objects, so there is no single bus to shape the full mix. Immersive Wrapper is designed to fill that gap. It hosts any mono-to-mono plugin in the Waves catalog in a multi-mono configuration across the channels of a track.

Control linking can be set across specific groups, and relative control positions can be preserved. The Global Group feature extends linking across multiple instances on different tracks in the session, so one plugin setting can work across the whole immersive mix.

Shared Sidechains and Channel Support

For dynamics plugins that accept a sidechain, Immersive Wrapper shares internal sidechains across all beds and objects. Up to six independent sidechain mixes can be shared across tracks in the session, and each channel or group of channels can be set to respond to the received sidechain or a mix of them. The External Key feature from the DAW can also be integrated into this system.

The plugin supports mono, stereo, LCR, Quad, 6.0, 5.1, 7.1, 7.1.2 and 9.1.6 track types, along with the other 5.1, 7.1 and 9.1 variations.
