03In depth

Sound Design Tools in Tina Guo's Cello and Erhu Library

The instrument is built around electric and erhu performances and includes an Acoustic Cello Legato set recorded at the MGM Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles. The Acoustic Cello Legato patches include Cinesamples' CineStrings Solo Legato engine and an Infinite Bow feature.

Cinesamples presents the library as a blend of music and sound design. Its new features include the Phrase Builder, which assembles melodic ideas from fragments of performances in several playing styles, and a built-in granular synth effect with left-right grainer functionality for stereo-spread textures.

Playing Controls and Repeated Note Articulations

Drone Designer lets you shape variable sonic beds by adjusting intensity and moving through long samples of cello drones with the Mod wheel.

The Repeated Note Round Robin Staccatos (RNRRS) function switches to a separate round-robin sample set when a short note is repeated. Cinesamples describes this as producing a more natural cello sound and feel.
