01Overview

SIGNAL, developed by Output, is built around a rhythm-first approach called pulsing. Each of its 500 Pulse Instruments is a ready-made starting point that combines analog synth tones with organic, live-recorded sounds. The library holds about 40GB of uncompressed content, spanning analog synths, digital synths and acoustic instruments. Its engine offers up to four simultaneous pulses, each locked to tempo, with step sequencers, arpeggiators, LFOs and a looper. Producers who want instant playability and fast ways to shape a rhythmic part will find the library focused on that goal.

Pulse Instruments and sound selection

The core of SIGNAL is its set of 500 Pulse Instruments. Each one is a starting point with its own character, so you can audition a wide range of textures without building patches from scratch. Output includes an intuitive tagging system to help you find the sound you need quickly.

Each Pulse Instrument has its own set of four central MACRO sliders. Because the sliders are unique to every instrument, you can perform and reshape a sound in real time without learning a new control layout for each patch. Built-in filters, convolution reverb, saturation and delays give you further shaping options within the instrument.

Rhythm engine and workflow

SIGNAL's engine runs up to four separate pulses at the same time, and every pulse locks to tempo. The rhythm tools include a looper, step sequencers, arpeggiators and LFOs, so you can build layered, moving parts inside one instrument.

The engine offers Basic and Advanced modes, which lets you start simply and go deeper as your patch develops. Output describes the design as a new way to pulse your sounds, with the emphasis on performance and rhythmic movement rather than static pads.
