01Overview

Albedo is an effects plugin from Sinevibes in the granular FX subcategory. It records the incoming signal into a circular buffer while running a set of looping playheads, called grains, that are scattered across that buffer. Each grain has its own random size and position, and the overlapping grains form the cloud texture the plugin is named for. Albedo supports VST3, AU and AAX on Windows and macOS.

Sound Engine and Granular Character

Albedo's core is a real-time circular recording buffer with an optional multi-mode state-variable filter placed before the recording stage. Up to 64 grains play back from random positions with random sizes, and each grain has dual envelope generators.

Playback speed adjusts continuously and moves smoothly between forward and reverse, so the signal can be manipulated in a way similar to a tape machine or turntable, including a fully stopped state. A sine-wave LFO can modulate grain speed and size in sync with the host. The developer describes the range as covering melting pitch shifts, reversed delays, chorus-style atmospheres and dark, dissonant textures.

Freeze Mode and Performance Use

Albedo can freeze its buffer and keep the granular cloud playing indefinitely. You can layer the original input on top of the frozen cloud, which makes the plugin usable as a live performance tool rather than only as a studio effect.

The interface uses color-coded graphic elements, and parameters share consistent names, mappings and units across the graphic interface and host automation. Built-in preset management is included, and the window scales up to 200 percent.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats and operating systems does Albedo support?

Albedo is available in VST3, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows 8.1 or later (64-bit only) and macOS 10.9 or later (64-bit only), with AAX supported on Apple Silicon.

What do I need to use Albedo?

Albedo is a plugin and needs a compatible DAW or host that supports VST3, AU or AAX on Windows or macOS. The system requirements call for an x86 processor on Windows, or an Intel or Apple Silicon Mac on macOS.

Can Albedo be used for live performance?

Yes. Its freeze function keeps the granular cloud playing indefinitely, and you can layer the original input signal over it, which the developer presents as a performance tool.
