01Overview

MGranularMB works by slicing incoming audio into small grains and reassembling them into new sound. The developer describes it as a way to make a lead behave like a pad or to add power to drums. Processing can run across multiple bands, with standard panning and pitch shifting, plus graph-based transformations and per-grain pitch adjustment to harmony. Up to 20 grains can be layered at once to build dense grain clouds. A free trial is available.

Sound Design and Processing Options

MGranularMB splits audio into bands, so each frequency range can be granulated separately. Grain processing includes panning and pitch shifting, and the developer notes that each grain's pitch can be set to a harmony. Layering up to 20 grains at once produces the cloud-like textures the plugin is built around.

The interface has two modes. The default view offers predefined modes and a few knobs for quick results. The advanced mode exposes the full feature set, including graph-based transformations and deeper control over the grain engine.

Modulation, Randomization and Workflow

Up to four modulators per instance can target any parameter, including other modulators. Each can work as an LFO, follower, MIDI- or audio-triggered ADSR envelope, pitch detector, or a combination of these. This helps the sound move over time instead of staying static.

Smart randomization generates new settings with one button. Holding Ctrl limits changes to slight adjustments of the current settings. Automatic gain compensation keeps output loudness close to the input, so comparing presets or randomized results is not skewed by level differences. MIDI learn lets any parameter be mapped to a controller and automated.
