01Overview

This upgrade is for existing owners of McDSP v6 plugins. The 6050 Ultimate Channel Strip brings together EQ, compression, gating, expansion, saturation and filtering in a single channel strip with input and output stages. It includes all the modules from the 6020 Ultimate EQ and 6030 Ultimate Compressor, plus new additions. The developer describes the modules as drawing on classic and modern designs from the last four decades.

Modules and signal flow in the 6050 channel strip

The channel strip has three module bays, and any of its 28 modules can be placed in them. You can drag and drop modules to rearrange the signal flow, and a module selector panel lets you audition equalizers, compressors and other effects quickly.

New modules in v7 include the S 671 saturation module with a Tone control, the Moo-D tube overdrive, the D-100 distortion, the MEF-1 Mid Emphasis Filter, the E404 re-issue of the FilterBank E4 EQ, the EZ G noise gate, the FRGX upward and downward expander, and the iX downward expander with a ratio control.

Formats, system requirements and activation

The plugin is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, in 64-bit only. McDSP states that Mac support covers macOS 10.13 and later, with macOS 12 Monterey compatibility, and runs natively on Intel and Apple Silicon. Windows 7, 8 and 10 are listed.

Activation requires an iLok2 or iLok3 USB Smart Key, or a free iLok License Manager account with iLok Cloud. Each v7 plugin includes two activations per authorization. McDSP notes that VST support ended with v7, and VST versions of v6 plugins will no longer be updated and will be uninstalled.
