03In depth

Loops and one-shots for lo-fi jazz beats

The expansion ships with a broad set of loops across the main instrument families. Drums are the largest group with 50 loops, followed by 21 piano and keys, 13 guitar loops, 10 bass loops, and smaller groups for brass, mallets, synth leads, strings, organ and vocals. Sound effects and percussion loops add texture to transitions and fills.

The one-shots cover drums, sound effects, mallets and a single vocal sample. These are useful for building custom drum kits or adding accents on top of loops. The total download is 456 MB.

Because the material is organized as loops, you can layer several parts together, such as a chord loop under a drum loop, to sketch a full arrangement quickly.

Using the expansion in Kontakt

Leap Expansion - Jazz Hop requires Kontakt. The developer notes that some Leap Expansions are included in Kontakt 8 and Komplete 15 Standard and above, which contain over 150 products and a 300 GB library.

The Leap range is built around performance features such as pitch twisting, warping and slicing loops from the keyboard, which the developer presents as a way to find unexpected results while working. Those controls apply to the loops in this pack as part of the wider Leap series.
