01Overview

London 70s is an expansion pack from BFD built around the big, booming drum sound of 1970s rock. It is designed for producers who want the feel of that era in their grooves. The pack includes 178 individual grooves, and the sounds are designed to fit alongside BFD's existing drum recordings. BFD describes the grooves as a bridge to the spirit of Led Zeppelin and the rock music of that period. The pack is listed under the BFD Player requirement, so it is a sound library rather than a standalone instrument.

Drum Kit and Sound Character

The expansion features a set of vintage and classic-style drum kits. The kick is a Ludwig Vistalite Kick Of Doom, and the snare is a Ludwig Black Oyster Snare 402 Supraphonic with 10 lugs. The toms include a Ludwig Vistalite Mid Tom, Floor Tom and a second Floor Tom.

Cymbals come from Paiste, including a Sound Edge Heavy hi-hat, two 2002 crashes at 18 and 20 inches, and a 2002 22-inch ride. Together these instruments give the pack its open, heavy rock character.

Resonance Sound, the developer, says the grooves are meant to capture the energy of that era, so the kit is best suited to rock and classic-rock projects.

Grooves and Workflow in BFD Player

London 70s contains 178 individual grooves that can be loaded and used as rhythmic starting points. Because the pack is built for BFD Player, you work with it inside that environment, using the same drum recordings that BFD provides.

The grooves are a practical starting point when you need a 70s rock feel for a demo, a sketch or a finished track. You can layer them with other BFD sounds or build new patterns on top of them.

Because the pack requires BFD Player 1.1.0, make sure that version is installed before you try to load it.
