01Overview

Weiss EQ1 recreates the Weiss Engineering EQ1 hardware unit in software. Softube developed it as a code port of the original, and Weiss Engineering endorses it. The plugin provides seven full-range bands with a Q range from 0.2 to 650. Beyond the hardware, it adds dynamic processing options, a higher sample rate ceiling, and four user interface layouts. Presets saved in the plugin are designed to recall with the same behavior as the hardware Snapshots.

Sound, Modes and Processing

Weiss EQ1 can work in Minimum Phase, Linear Phase, Dynamic and Dynamic Advanced modes. Softube describes the minimum phase EQ as surgical, and the linear phase EQ as a true linear phase design.

The seven bands cover the full frequency range and offer high and low cut, high and low shelving, and peaking filters. The cut and boost range runs from -39 to +18 dB. M/S processing and channel linking are included, along with solo and bypass for individual bands.

In Dynamic Advanced mode, threshold, attack, release and ratio can be set on each band. Softube notes that the hardware supports four dynamic bands, while the plugin enables all seven.

Workflow and Interface

The plugin offers four adaptable user interface layouts. The knob arrangement changes with the active mode, so parameters stay accessible regardless of which mode is selected.

Presets can be recalled manually and behave as they do on the hardware. The plugin supports sample rates up to 192 kHz and uses 64-bit internal processing.
