01Overview

Violence takes a solo violin and treats it as raw material. The recordings capture the instrument bowed, scraped, struck and plucked, played with mallets, chopsticks, guitar picks and wet fingers. Those sources were then re-pitched, layered and processed through a range of unusual tools. The developer cites the prepared piano experiments of John Cage as the inspiration, applying a similar approach of physical alteration and digital manipulation to the violin.

Violence blends acoustic and electronic sounds. Vir2 Instruments describes the library as straddling both worlds, with the violin's original identity often shaped beyond recognition.

The library includes more than 80 unique patches. Each patch has its own set of scripted controls, so the available knobs change with the instrument you load. The patches are grouped into four folders: Drum Kits, Melodic, Pads and SFX, and Tempo Synced.

Controls and Workflow in Kontakt

Depending on the instrument loaded, the interface shows controls suited to that patch. Listed options include quantization, attack and release envelope controls, stereo spread, lowpass and hi-pass filters, and layer blend controls.

Effects such as reverb, delay, drive, flanger, vibrato, rotator and wobble are available, along with auto-pan control and a repeater. These let you shape each patch without leaving the instrument.
